Wolfgang Gaisböck began studying the trumpet in 1990 at the Bruckner Conservatoire in Linz under Josef Eidenberger and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg under Hans Gansch.
He has been a member of the Camerata Salzburg since 1996. As a soloist, he has performed with leading early music ensembles (Concentus Musicus Wien under Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Il Giardino Armonico, Concerto Köln, ‘The Bach Ensemble’ under Joshua Rifkin). Concerts with these ensembles have taken him to the Berlin Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Teatro Municipale Valli in Italy, Finland, Japan and Slovenia, and to the Royal Albert Hall as part of the Proms. Gaisböck is regarded as one of the leading Baroque trumpeters, particularly as a specialist in the Second Brandenburg Concerto and the cantatas of J. S. Bach. He has collaborated with trumpeter Alison Balsom on a CD recording and several chamber music projects, including performances at Wigmore Hall in London and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. His great passion lies in historical performance practice, from the Baroque to the Romantic period.
Wolfgang Gaisböck has been teaching historical trumpet at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz and modern trumpet at the Upper Austrian Music School Association since 2005. Since 2013, he has been a lecturer in natural trumpet at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. Wolfgang Gaisböck is a co-founder of the ‘Schwanthaler Trompeten Consort’. Since 2020, he has also been teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdW).
