Stefano Guarino is a pianist and cellist. He studied with Sergio Torri, Piero Guarino and Piernarciso Masi at the Imola Academy, as well as with Donna Magendanz, Mario Brunello and Enrico Dindo. He graduated with distinction on both instruments and has won several national and international prizes for solo and chamber music on the cello and piano (including Albenga, Caltanissetta, Castelfranco Veneto, Vittorio Veneto, the T.I.M. and the “Bucchi” in Rome, the “Speranza” in Taranto, and the “Tonelli” in Carpi). Together with his siblings, he founded the “Trio Guarino”. Together they have performed at numerous prestigious music festivals in Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, France, Portugal and the USA.
As a cellist, Guarino has performed with the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. As principal cellist, he has collaborated with the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, I Solisti di Pavia, the Teatro Regio Orchestra of Turin, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica Toscanini and the Camerata Salzburg. As a soloist, he has performed with the Camerata Italiana, I Virtuosi Italiani, the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, the Trento Chamber Orchestra, the Brescia Chamber Orchestra, the ‘Archi’ Orchestra of Turin, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, the Padua and Veneto Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg and the Orchestra of the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza. For the ‘Symposien’ label, Stefano has recorded music for solo cello and solo piano, as well as a complete recording of Riccardo Zandonai’s chamber music works, works for solo cello and music for small orchestra for Tactus.
Alongside his busy concert schedule, Stefano is invited to serve as a cello tutor for the cello sections of the Britten Pears Youth Orchestra in Aldeburgh and the EUYO (European Union Youth Orchestra). He also teaches as a full professor at the Bonporti Conservatoire in Trento.
Recent musical engagements have taken him to several Italian cities for recitals, during which he alternated between performing works for solo cello and solo piano within the same programme. With the Hèsperos Piano Trio, which he forms with Filippo Lama (violin) and Riccardo Zadra (piano), he has performed the complete Beethoven trios in several Italian theatres.
