Born in Bolzano in 1993, Michael Reifer began taking his first horn lessons at the age of seven at the Brixen Music School under Manfred Messner. From 2012 to 2014, he attended the “Claudio Monteverdi” Conservatoire in Bolzano and subsequently began his Bachelor’s degree at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts under Prof. Johannes Hinterholzer, graduating in 2018.
He also took part in numerous masterclasses, including those given by Prof. Erich Penzel, Prof. Christian Lampert, Simone Baroncini and Marie-Luise Neunecker.
Michael Reifer gained his first orchestral experience through an internship with the Munich Symphony Orchestra. This was followed in 2018 by a fixed-term contract as second/fourth horn player with the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra Innsbruck. He has been a regular guest performer with the Camerata Salzburg for the past two years.
He also takes on various temporary engagements (Teatro Petruzzelli, Bari; Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra; Pfalztheater, Kaiserslautern; Il Giardino Armonico) and performs in various chamber music ensembles.

What is it like for you to play in a chamber orchestra?
Playing in a chamber orchestra requires a high degree of concentration, precision and interaction: For me, it feels like a shared dialogue in which every musician plays an important role. That makes playing music a very personal and intense experience.
What do you hope to convey to the audience at your concerts?
I hope that the audience at our concerts develops a deep understanding and appreciation for the music and the art of the chamber orchestra. We want to take the audience on a journey through a range of feelings and emotions to give them an unforgettable evening – and I hope that we can inspire them with our passion and dedication, and that they will join us on our musical journey.
