Charlie Fischer

Charlie Fischer, born in St. Johann in Tirol, works as a freelance percussionist and timpanist, covering the entire stylistic spectrum – from Baroque and Classical music to various contemporary genres – like few other musicians. In all these fields, he performs worldwide with some of the most renowned ensembles specialising in the respective styles: Concentus Musicus Wien, Europa Galante, Il Giardino Armonico, The Bach Ensemble, I Barocchisti, Concerto Vocale Paris, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern and many others. He is a member of the Camerata Salzburg and a timpanist with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.

For many years, he has also devoted himself to so-called experimental and improvised music. He has collaborated with fellow artists such as Haimo Wisser, Burkhard Stangl, Franz Koglmann, Ernesto Molinari, Florian Bramböck, Barry Guy, Gunther Schneider and Radu Malfatti. As a jazz drummer, he has been playing since 1983 with Florian Bramböck and the ‘Erben’, as well as with Sal Nistico, Randy Brecker, Joe Lovano, Alan Praskin, Klaus Koch and others. Together with Ernesto Molinari and Burkhard Stangl, he founded the experimental trio ‘BANANA!’. He has also undertaken duo projects with Trilok Gurtu, Andrew Laurence-King, Peter Waldner and others. In 2004, he was awarded the Emil Berlanda Prize.

He has made well over 100 CD recordings with Charlie Fischer, in addition to countless recordings for radio and television. He also performs frequently as a soloist.
