About this Concert

Celebrate New Year's Eve in both Paris and Vienna simultaneously, dancing into the New Year to the enchanting sounds of Waltzes and Musettes! What may not be physically possible becomes a reality through music, thanks to CAMERATA. This year, the orchestra takes us on a journey to the distinctive musical realms of both cities to celebrate the New Year. Just as the Waltz is beloved by the Viennese, the Valse Musette is cherished by Parisians, with its ballroom dancing accompanied by the accordion. Thus, the waltz section of CAMERATA has invited the exceptional French accordionist Richard Galliano. "Create a 'musette neuve style', just as I invented the 'tango nuevo'," Astor Piazzolla once advised Galliano, whom he had invited to play the first bandoneon part in his piece A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Galliano, the son of an accordionist, embraced the instrument early in life. To broaden his musical horizons, he immersed himself in jazz, integrating its elements into his accordion playing. This fusion created his unique musical style, fulfilling Piazzolla's vision of a new genre. However, the Musette Neuve resonated beyond its roots, influencing a variety of dances and styles, and shining through in Galliano's collaborations with stars such as Jan Garbarek, Chet Baker, Wynton Marsalis, Juliette Gréco, and Charles Aznavour.

The first part of the concert, introduced by Offenbach's famous overture "Parisian Life" including the Can-Can, showcases Galliano's versatility and distinctive style with his powerful and melancholic "Concerto Opale," the legendary "Valse à Margaux," and, of course, Tango Nuevo! Following their Parisian performances, CAMERATA will usher in the Johann Strauss Year 2025 (the 200th birthday of the Waltz King) in the second part, bringing the musical spirit of Vienna to life. The audience will feel the pulse of "Wiener Blut" in their musical veins, enriched by successful Parisian infusions of Strauss.
