Season opener: ‘Pasticcio italiano’ with Julia Hagen

Bella Italia! We’re extending the summer with the first concert of the season and a Pasticcio Italiano! You can look forward to a colourful, lively journey through the Italian musical tradition – from the Baroque and Classical periods right through to contemporary works. Featuring the acclaimed cellist Julia Hagen and the Italian CAMERATA principal cellist Paolo Bonomini, Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Cellos takes centre stage this evening. Alongside Boccherini’s virtuoso cello concertos, we’ll set the cellos vibrating with the best-known composition by Italy’s most famous contemporary cello virtuoso, Giovanni Sollima. CAMERATA rounds off the Italian programme with fiery symphonies by Boccherini and Brunetti, as well as Puccini’s string quartet ‘Crisantemi’ performed by a string ensemble under the baton of our Venetian-Italian concertmaster, Giovanni Guzzo. Look forward to a programme brimming with intensity, virtuosity and emotional depth – a highlight of the concert calendar that you shouldn’t miss.
