Kurt Körner was born in Graz and studied at the Conservatoire in his home town in Stanko Arnold’s trumpet class. As early as 1991, Kurt Körner joined the Camerata Salzburg as principal trumpeter; at that time, the ensemble was still known as the Camerata Academica of the Mozarteum Salzburg and was under the artistic direction of Sándor Végh.
Over the past quarter of a century, the trumpeter has performed in many hundreds of concerts with the Camerata all over the world, playing alongside leading soloists and under the baton of eminent conductors. Kurt Körner also performs as a trumpeter in numerous other orchestras and ensembles, ranging from period instrument ensembles specialising in historical performance practice to ensembles dedicated to contemporary music.
For the past 20 years, Kurt Körner has also been intensively engaged in playing the natural trumpet. For example, he has performed with the Capella Leopoldina and the French ensemble Les Talens Lyriques (conducted by Christophe Rousset). The trumpeter has also performed with ensembles employing ‘modern’ tuning and playing techniques, such as the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Klangforum Wien, the Ensemble Pro Brass, the Graz Symphony Orchestra and the Ensemble Zeitfluss, as well as with several bands (including ‘Die Schneider’).
Kurt Körner has been teaching a trumpet class at the J. J. Fux Conservatoire in Graz since 2000. Today, the trumpeter plays an instrument made by Rainer Egger.
